About Us

Founded in 1995, Safari Zoo Camp at Jungle Cat World Wildlife Park is an exciting and unique experiential education program, which specializes in hands-on learning experiences with wildlife. The only residential summer camp of its kind in the world, participants work alongside professional zoo keeping staff to care for a variety of animals, many rare and endangered. Duties include feeding, watering, cleaning and behavioural enrichment projects.

Safari Zoo Camp is fully accredited by the Ontario Camps Association. Members adhere to the highest standards of safety, supervision and quality programming. Since 1934, the Ontario Camps Association has been recognized worldwide as a leader in organized camping.

Ashley Maika

Camp Director

Starting at the age of 5 with the Safari Zoo Camp herself, Ashley began at Jungle Cat World and found her second home.

After being a camper for 10 years in a row, Ashley worked her way up from volunteer photographer to Camp Director. She currently works full-time at Jungle Cat World Wildlife Park as a Senior Animal Care attendant with a special focus on behavioural enrichment.

Growing up around the animals and developing a passion for the natural world around her from many experiences at Safari Zoo Camp herself, she aims to provide new campers with the same valuable experiences she had as a child.

Financial Support

Kids in Camp is a registered charity which subsidizes camp experiences for children and youth. They are dedicated to assisting families that live in Ontario and Quebec, who otherwise would not be able to send their kids to an OCA accredited camp.

If you're applying for this partial subsidy, please begin the process early with Safari Zoo Camp so the Director can submit the necessary information by the April 1st deadline.
