Job Application are only accepted in February. Candidates are selected and interviewed in March. Hiring is complete by April 1.
Staff and volunteers are selected based on certain key elements to ensure a high quality of safety and care. To be considered you must meet the following criteria:
- Emergency First Aid
- Level C CPR
- Police Check
- Three references
- Experience with children and animals
- Fundamental understanding of wildlife and ecosystems
- Are adventurous, fun and outgoing!
- Attended Zoo Camp
- Volunteered/worked at Jungle Cat World
- Are a minimum 19 years old
- Actively pursue outdoor sports and activities
- Have a Project WILD certification
- Are Bilingual
- Pursuing or have a diploma in any field relating to Child Care/Education or Environmental Sciences
- Travel experience (resorts don't count!)
- Have special skills and/or knowledge
Once selected, the group goes through a training program at Jungle Cat World a few weeks prior to camp. This inlcudes:
- Studying camp policies and procedures with emphasis on child safety, welfare and care
- Emergency protocol
- Zoo orientation
- Learning to handle various animals- mammals, birds, reptiles, arachnids and insects
- Environmental activities (Project WILD)
- Classroom presentations
- Familiarization of Warsaw Caves- exploring
- Nature hike (wild edibles, toxic plants, wild animals)
